While it is that time of year to prepare your federal and state income taxes, you may want to delay hiring someone to handle it for you. The experts at the University's Percy J. Vaughn, Jr. College of Business Administration (COBA) are offering tax preparation services free of charge to all members of the Hornet Nation Family and to the general  public.

The dean of COBA, Dr. Kamal Hingorani, explained that faculty experts are preparing taxes for whoever needs assistance.

"We have continued our tradition of offering pro-bono (free) tax preparation services for anyone who desires for us to do so for them," Hingorani said. "Our tax preparers, many of whom have graduate-level degrees, are expert in the codes and regulations that apply for both state and federal income taxes and additionally are also trained and tested in the most current tax laws using Internal Revenue Service material."

DETAILS ON THE SERVICE

Hingorani shared that the free service is provided every Friday and Saturday, now through April 12, from 9 a.m. until noon, in the ASU College of Business Administration building, room 112. Single or joint tax filers may walk in and obtain the service; however, Dean Hingorani strongly advises that those desiring help should call either 334-229-4134 or 334-604-8460 beforehand to schedule an appointment.

Hingorani advised that those availing themselves of the service should bring all of the necessary documents, including a government-issued photo identification card, their Social Security card, wage and earning statements, a copy of their last year's tax returns, and bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of refunds (a voided blank check is best). Information about additional info that is needed to file taxes may be obtained prior to coming by calling one of the numbers listed above.

"This is all part of COBA and its department of Accounting and Finance and its Master of Accountancy program giving a free service to the public and to our University family of students, staff, faculty and alumni, which follows the mandate and the spirit of what Alabama State President Ross (Dr. Quinton T. Ross, Jr.) extols as CommUniversity," stated Hingorani.

For additional information from COBA, call 334-604-8460.
